Our first few days

by | Daily Life, Italian Living

We knocked on the door of not rotting in place and found ourselves walking right into the Twilight Zone. At least we had two things going for us … US. Together we survive and thrive. Now we have a guardian angel, too.

To welcome us, our Angel’s Mom brought us a Pescara map. She gave us a few tips about where to have laundry done, where to get bread and pasta, and the like.

Grazie mille!

In the morning
we woke up

We realized we aren’t going to rot in place — we had moved an ocean away to Italy. We had to figure out how to survive. It was like being reborn again only at the same age, with the same smarts and willfulness.

EVERYTHING IS DIFFERENT. All senses are overwhelmed by the sights, the sounds, le rumore.

The people on the streets are subtly different from head to toe. We learned that in Pescara, sparkly apparel is a thing. The streets are different as very few are straight. The SIGNS are all in Italian. Not to be quip. Think about it, your eyes take in English and feed it directly to your brain. Your brain processes it and understanding is achieved every day of your life. Then all of a sudden written words don’t make sense any more.

The integration process starts right away. “Overwhelming” doesn’t begin to capture the feeling.

“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.”

My yoga Teacher taught, “Start with the feet.” So we did.
